Net benefits for school community

A pioneering wireless project provides a blueprint for other schools

Churchfields School in Swindon has built a wireless network community around its school as part of its long-term development project.

It enables pupils to use the wireless network from their homes, also allowing them to link into the network.

Trevor Davies, head of IT at the school says: "Only 40 per cent of our pupils had broadband at home. Through our new system, everyone is able to access the internet at home. This programme is opening up a whole new world to families and increasing the learning capabilities of the young in this area."

The system has been provided by Wireless Edge. Peter Lam, managing director, says: "There is a lot of deprivation in this neighbourhood. We have pooled our resources to achieve best value and enable wider access to e-learning. Our aim is to enable social inclusion through a sustainable wireless network for communities throughout the UK."
